TWO INJURED AFTER EXPPLOSION ON RECREATIONAL BOAT
Yaiza, Lanzarote – A fire on a pleasure boat docked at Marina Puerto Calero resulted in injuries to two men on the evening of August 5, 2024. The incident occurred at 8:22 PM when an explosion in the boat’s engine room sparked a blaze that was quickly brought under control by emergency services.

The injured men, aged 46 and 43, received immediate medical attention at the scene from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and were transported by medical ambulances to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa for specialized treatment.

The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES 112) received the alert and promptly activated the necessary emergency resources. The Lanzarote Fire and Rescue Consortium handled the fire suppression, while Maritime Rescue, the Local Police, and the Civil Guard also responded to assist with the injured and secure the area.

The Civil Guard has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident and is preparing the relevant report. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported, though the explosion and fire caused significant concern among residents and tourists in the area.

The swift response of emergency teams helped mitigate the impact of the fire, and authorities continue to work to clarify the details of the event.
